Seagull Models Yak-11 Reno Racer Test Flight
I was recently given a previously flown (IC power) Seagull Models Yak-11 "Reno Racer" (actually, "Perestroika", which later became "Czechmate"). I converted to electric power and filled the large cowl cutouts and improved the lip around the large spinner. My intention is to do a semi-scale "extreme makeover" into the Yak-11 "Mr. Awesome" racer as it appeared in 1989.

Blohm & Voss BV141B: Remaiden of Completed "Extreme Makeover"
Просмотров 4,3 тыс.2 месяца назад
Following 3 successful test flights (in primer, no details), this is the first flight of my now-competed Flyboys Models Blohm & Voss BV141B. The BV141 was the only asymmetrical aircraft to reach series production (20 were made including prototypes). This is an "extreme makeover" of an old, long out-of-production ARF (acquired NIB), which has taken almost 5 months, including electric conversion,...

Mosquito Retract Door Sequencer Issue (and solution)
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.4 месяца назад
My heavily modified Black Horse DH98 Mosquito has been flying beautifully for nearly two years, and I fly it fairly often in the rotation. Yesterday I flew it for the first time in a few weeks, and BOTH gear door sequencers are doing the same strange thing. This happens whether the model is assembled as normally for flight, OR if I try inputting a signal directly into each wing panel's sequence...
P-40E "Aleutian Tiger" Flight No.3

This short video is from the third post-completion flight of my totally revamped CMPro Curtiss P-40E Warhawk. The first two flights (last week) were mostly successful, but much time taken up with retrimming, and the second landing wasn't great, bending both retract/strut pins (both of which were replaced). Today's flight was much smoother and landing very good. It was followed up with one more ...

Unfinished maiden test flights were made nearly two months ago at 15 lbs. 11 oz. flight weight now completed with paint and detailing, it's just over 17 lbs. Finished as one of the "Aleutian Tigers" as it appeared in 1943, this...

CMP P-40E Tail Retract and Gear Doors Test (mechanical linkage)

My own 3D printed tail retract appeared to survive the two maiden flights I made a few improvements, and moved on to the gear doors which are also 3D printed with integrated hinges. My own 3D printed tail retract appeared to survive the two maiden flights I made a few improvements, and moved on to the gear doors which are also 3D printed with integrated hinges. I tied to get them to work mechanically but the geometry with my retractable gear just wouldn't work. I moved to a single 9gm servo to operate the doors and ran that and the retract's servo through a Freewing sequen...

    Lovely model and beautifully flown. I can't remember seeing this unusual aircraft modelled before. And good to see the swastika on the fin, so often not included due to 'political correctness' but a WW2 German aircraft always looks odd without it.

    • @vintagecornet
      @vintagecornet 2 месяца назад

      When I stopped making models almost 40 years ago, that wasn't a "thing". I struggle a bit with it now, but it seems to me that any Luftwaffe aircraft can be characterized the same way, in other words, not just limiting it to one graphic symbol. I point out to people that Luftwaffe aircraft displayed at the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum (and Udvar Hazy) retain original correct markings, or receive such markings when restored (offhand, ME262, ME163, DO335 are examples), and also the Museum of the United States Air Force (Dayton, OH). A scale model is either an historical representation or it isn't. It's not a political statement IMO, and it certainly isn't intended to signal support of country/politics of its time.

    Wow, that is one weird aircraft. But the Germans pulled off a few "weird" looking aircraft in WWII. As for the asymmetric flaps, that is a head scratcher to say the least, but I feel in time you will work that out. I see the advantage of going electric. The battery(s) weigh the same charged or not charged so you won't have to fight a gusty landing with some fuel sloshing around. BTW, I subbed to your channel as I'm into rc planes too.

    Isn't the actual planes doors pushed by the landing gear itself?

    • @vintagecornet
      @vintagecornet 4 месяца назад

      That's true of nearly all retract gear doors on full-scale. The geometry can be very tricky. Mosquito mains are very unique and available model retracts are not at all alike. As far as how to close the doors, there are "many ways to skin the cat", servos and pushrods being just one.

    • @vintagecornet

      It does show the problem -- the doors are supposed to shut after the gear retracts. The solution was added to the description after I figured one out, and the headline changed to reflect that.

    Well done on your landing. I fly on FMS 1100 mm Hawker Typhoon. Because of where I fly I have to hand launch and belly land every single time. One of the things I do just before landing is retract my flaps so as not to stress the servos. I have my flaps on a slider on the left hand side of my transmitter. That way I have throttle control and slider control at my fingertips. Thank you for taking time making and posting videos of your typhoon. Could you do a video of your electric electric setup, please?

  • @randallandrews120
    @randallandrews120 8 месяцев назад

    Nick, Hawker Typhoon lover here too. What a special plane. I currently fly a FMS 1100mm Hawker Typhoon. Gotta get a Super Sized one. And....it must fly ELECTRIC. I live on a 40' sailboat and don't have room for all of the Essentials required to do gas. Could you do a video for us, by opening up the cowling and describing your electric setup, please? Obviously I'm interested in the entire process you went through. Especially finding the correct cg. Even on my little FMS Bird I felt I had to add 30 metric tons of lead in her nose to get the CG correct. Which by the way was totally different than what the manual said. Thank you for taking the time to post your videos for us to enjoy and learn from.
